We lived in a 14th century tower...

italy / italian / life / living — paciano towerThe first place we stayed while living in Italy was a tower in the historic wall of a medieval castle which is now the historic center of Paciano (near Lago Trasimeno in Umbria). The tower dates back to the fourteenth century and is owned by the well-known Buitoni family (a popular brand of fresh pasta and pasta sauces that you can find in good grocery stores). Luigi Buitoni is a resident of Paciano and operates a bed & breakfast there.

We seriously considered staying here but after two weeks we found the small kitchen unworkable for our family. The original kitchen (a large room with arched brick ceiling and large fireplace) had been converted into a formal living/dining room... a big mistake! The Buitoni family said that they would switch it back and update the kitchen but we couldn't wait two months since our children would be starting school right away... too bad!
