The best tour guide in Rome...

italy / italian / travel — tour guidesThe best tour guide in Rome is actually a student studying architecture at the Università di Roma. He stands 6' 6" (almost 2 meters) tall and is half German (sadly, he doesn't speak German). Gabrielle knows everything about art and architecture in Rome (having lived and studied there his entire life). I've heard many professional tour guides and their canned presentations, but Gabrielle made learning about Italian culture and history fun and interesting for the entire family. He would share these remarkable side stories that gave perspective to what we were viewing. The kids love him dearly.

Every time family members or friends came to visit, they would invariably want to tour Rome. We'd call Gabrielle and see if he was available. Others were equally impressed by him. (You can learn more in one day with this guy than a week with a typical tour guide.) Too bad he's not a "bona fide" tour guide!
