Gelato anyone?...

italy / italian / food / life / living — gelatoGelato (or Italian ice cream) is a wonderful treat. The great thing about gelato is that everyone can find a flavor that they really like. The trick is not to eat too much (or to sacrifice quality over having to walk just a little bit more). Rick Steves (the public television travel guy) is a gelato nut. The good news is that he lists the best gelaterìa in each Italian city he has visited. And, he is usually "spot on" (a phrase borrowed from our British friends).

My personal favorite flavor (boring to many) is stracciatella (pronounced "straw-chia-tell-ahh"). It's similar to chocolate chip (but so much better tasting). Here are the family favorites:
  • Anne-Marie —> pistacchio (pistachio)
  • Rebecca —> nocciola (hazelnut)
  • Craig —> richard (packed with yummy stuff)
  • Trevor —> fior di latte all'amarena (vanilla cherry)
  • Andrew —> limone (lemon)
  • Hannah —> cioccolato-arancia (chocolate orange)
  • Paige —> melone (cantaloupe)
  • Savannah —> fragola (strawberry)
