The nightmare of parking...

italy / italian / life / living / travel / way — parking customIt wasn't uncommon for us to find several cars blocking the exit on our little street (with no idea to whom they belonged). Italians will leave their car anywhere at any time (without thinking twice about other cars they may be blocking). Our big car was a 9-seat VW van with amazing maneuverability. Notwithstanding, it couldn't fly and several times there just wasn't room to get the car out.

I once got a ticket for parking on the sidewalk. It looked like a valid parking spot so I got my camera and while I was walking to the police station I took pictures of all the crazy places people were parked. (There were even parking stalls that had been painted onto the sidewalk by the city itself.) I spoke to the commandant and she laughed when she saw the pictures. It wasn't until I showed her the parking stalls that the city had painted on the sidewalk that she agreed to take care of the ticket. You gotta love digital cameras!
