Made in Italy...
The father of one of the children at the local pre-school that Paige and Savannah attended was named Mauro. Mauro owned a factory near Firenze (or Florence) that produced leather handbags under contract with famous Italian designers (e.g., Gucci, Furla). He invited us to come and tour his factory (which was of interest to both Anne-Marie and I but perhaps for different reasons). I love to see how things are made and Anne-Marie loves to see the things... so there you have it.Mauro took us through the entire process (from the initial cad design, to prototype, through the approval process, systemization, materials acquisition, and eventual manufacturing of a new bag). It was very interesting. The man in the photo is cutting out the leather for a Furla handbag using metal templates and a press. These pieces are sewn / assembled by hand and the resulting bag is shipped directly to the retail store... all on an as-needed basis.
At the end of the tour, Mauro took Anne-Marie over to the warehouse and gave her a very nice bag (the brand shall remain nameless but you can bet that she looked it up on the Internet). Anne-Marie loves her hand-made Italian leather bag... grazie mille Mauro!
