Here's something unique...

italy / italian / travel / things to do — assisi gum fenceThis fence is located along the pathway to the hill-top castle in Assisi (birth place of St. Francis and headquarters to the Franciscan monks). When you first look at the fence it appears to be made of small seashells. It’s only when you get closer that you discover the fence is actually made from people’s discarded gum. Yummm!

Assisi is located in the Umbria region and is a great place to see. (We probably visited this city at least a dozen times with friends in tow.) One thing, make sure you park (or take the bus) to the very top of the city and walk down (there's a parking lot at the last bus stop). When you get to the bottom, just take the bus back up to the top. You should see the faces of those who walk up from the bottom (and I don't care how in shape they are)... they don't appear to be having a very good time.
