The road of life...

italy / italian / culture / cycling — weatherIn Italy, it can be sunny and clear one moment and the next moment a storm rolls in and dumps buckets of rain. Moments later, the storm is gone and the sun reappears. This reminds me of the vicissitudes (ups and downs) of life.

This picture was taken near Cortona, the city from the book (and movie) Under the Tuscan Sun. It's one of the plethora of Italian medieval cities at the top of a hill (which makes cycling in Italy a real treat).

I road my bike all over Tuscany and Umbria and saw some incredible vistas and met some great people. The beauty of Italian life is easier to appreciate from the seat of a bike. You notice things that otherwise would wisk by too quickly. Italians walk a lot, ride bikes and scooters, congregate in public squares and just talk. It's a shame that we don't have more of that here in the United States.
