Living in Italy taught us more than the beauty of Tuscany or Umbria, Italian culture, Italian cooking... enjoy life lessons through our original stories and images at www.thebishopblog.com.
Before leaving Italy in July 2007 we decided to tour a few countries in Europe. So we spent a few days in Switzerland, Austria,
Germany, France, etc.
It was interesting to see the differences from Italian family life. The only thing I was personally interested in doing was seeing a mountain stage
finish of the Tour de France. So we booked a condo at Tignes (a ski resort and
finish of Stage 8). It was quite a spectacle (and I'm not just speaking about
the race itself). They had tons of things going on for the spectators. Our then
five-year old daughter, Paige, entered the children's art contest sponsored by
Haribo (the gummy company). When the race was finished, all of the children
gathered at the pavilion to hear who had one the art contest. The grand prize
was a bag filled with cool art supplies. We stood there listening as they
called out the name "Paige!" Her older sister, Hannah, led Paige through the
crowd to where she could climb the stairs which led to the stage. She
graciously accepted the bag but then the Haribo people started to ask her
questions in French. She had no idea what they were saying so she just walked
off the stage when they put the microphone to her mouth... it was pretty funny.
